Position Overview:

The Airport Operations Coordinator is accountable for overseeing airport functions during designated shifts, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the Airport Operations Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervision.

Compensation Level:

Grade 11.

Employment Classification:

Non-Exempt.

Key Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proactively identifying and addressing operational, safety, and security issues through comprehensive inspections of all airport areas, including airside, landside, and terminal facilities.
  • Ensuring optimal conditions of airside, landside, and terminal facilities by generating work orders and executing minor maintenance tasks.
  • Conducting airside operations, which encompass identifying, mitigating, and addressing hazards to aviation, such as foreign object debris (FOD), wildlife, and unauthorized access.
  • Executing snow removal operations as required during assigned shifts.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in operating light equipment and understanding safety protocols associated with their use.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all aeronautical areas, including pavement, markings, lighting, and safety zones.
  • Coordinating construction and maintenance activities to minimize disruption to airport operations.
  • Issuing airport identification badges and providing training for AOA drivers and airport security.
  • Monitoring compliance with federal, state, and airport regulations, issuing work orders and NOTAMs as necessary.
  • Conducting weather observations and performing Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) duties as outlined in the Airport Emergency Plan.
  • Enforcing parking regulations and managing commercial terminal traffic.
  • Performing thorough inspections of terminal facilities and occasionally undertaking janitorial tasks.
  • Coordinating any contracted services related to airport operations.
  • Ensuring adherence to airport policies and procedures, taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Engaging in airport security functions, including monitoring communication systems and security equipment.
  • Supporting all requirements under Safety Management Systems (SMS) through documentation and training.
  • Maintaining positive communication with customers and representing the airport professionally.
  • Following written and oral instructions effectively and fostering good working relationships.
  • Assuming operational, safety, and security responsibilities in the absence of airport management.
  • Working effectively in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Completing additional duties as assigned by the Airport Director and Assistant Airport Director.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma is required, along with relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possession of a valid ND Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 180 days of employment.
  • Capability to operate heavy equipment, including snow removal vehicles and forklifts, through appropriate training.
  • Certification in airport-related snow removal techniques and ARFF within 180 days of employment.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the role.
  • Willingness to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in airport or airline operations.
  • Private pilot certification.

Language and Reasoning Skills:

Ability to read and interpret safety documents and manuals, write routine reports, and communicate effectively in English.

Physical and Work Environment:

This position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, and operating equipment. The work environment may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions and mechanical hazards.

Regular attendance and adherence to scheduled shifts are essential.
