Overview

Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Student Services department as a Student Support and Engagement Specialist. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in helping prospective and current students achieve their academic goals and succeed in their educational journey.

Position Summary:

The Student Support and Engagement Specialist will develop and implement effective strategies to promote student engagement, academic success, and retention. This will involve providing campus-wide programming, one-on-one mentoring, peer-to-peer support groups, and community resource connections to increase inclusion, belonging, and retention among all student populations.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with MPTC faculty and employees to ensure students transition smoothly to the MPTC campus community through diversity-related programming and educational plan reviews.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community support services to promote student success and retention.
  • Serve as a liaison between community agencies and students, establishing and maintaining contact with key agency staff.
  • Enhance student retention and completion rates by supporting and promoting peer-to-peer connections through academic and engagement activities.
  • Create and lead programming to educate students and employees on issues related to diverse and underrepresented populations.
  • Coordinate and implement professional development activities regarding multilingual students and retention with the College's ELL department, recruitment, and area high schools.
  • Collaborate with service providers and community-based organizations to ensure communication and understanding and to promote campus awareness of multicultural student experiences, needs, and concerns.
  • Assist enrolled students in their transition to MPTC, including tours, resources, peer-to-peer support groups, and one-on-one meetings linking students to other support services.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of bilingual-related issues, services, and transition processes required to promote student success in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with issues families/individuals face regarding poverty; knowledge of local resources (health, housing, childcare, food).
  • Familiarity with student development theory and needs of two-year college students.
  • Working knowledge of educational settings, general public relations, and the mission of technical colleges.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize special projects with routine assignments.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work; research and analyze information, resolve problems, and make recommendations.
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism and a demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of information and demonstrate critical and systems thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Bilingual written and verbal communication skills in Spanish language.
  • Working knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Other Position Requirements:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Flexible scheduling may be required to include evenings and weekends.
