About the Role

Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our Student Services department as a Student Support and Engagement Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our students and contribute to the college's mission of providing high-quality education and training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for student engagement and academic success, including campus-wide programming and one-on-one mentoring.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure students have a smooth transition to the college community, including diversity-related programming and educational plan reviews.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community support services to promote student success and retention.
  • Serve as a liaison between community agencies and students, establishing and maintaining contact with key agency staff.
  • Represent the college on committees and task forces related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of support provided to students, developing and maintaining activity reports for retention, grant reporting, and accountability purposes.
  • Create and lead programming to educate students and employees on issues related to diverse and underrepresented populations.
  • Coordinate and implement professional development activities regarding multilingual students and retention with the college's ELL department and recruitment and area high schools.
  • Assist enrolled students in their transition to the college, including tours, resources, peer-to-peer support groups, and one-on-one meetings linking students to other support services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology, social work, human services, or a related field.
  • Two years' experience in working with diverse populations or communities or in student services in higher education.
  • Knowledge of bilingual-related issues, services, and transition processes required to promote student success in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with issues families/individuals face regarding poverty, knowledge of local resources (health, housing, childcare, food).
  • Familiarity with student development theory and needs of two-year college students.
  • Working knowledge of educational settings, general public relations, and the mission of technical colleges.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work; research and analyze information, resolve problems, and make recommendations.
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of information and demonstrate critical and systems thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual written and verbal communication skills in Spanish language.
  • Working knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Other Position Requirements
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Flexible scheduling may be required to include evenings and weekends.
