Overview:

The Bartender is tasked with the complete setup of the bar area and the preparation of beverages for all guests and servers.

The individual must uphold the service and cleanliness of the bar area, ensuring quality service, guest satisfaction, and control over liquor inventory.

The position is based at the Sheraton San Jose Hotel.

Responsibilities:
Process guest checks, collect cash, and manage credit card and room charge transactions according to established standards.
Perform opening and closing side work according to guidelines to ensure prompt and efficient service to guests.
Prepare beverages and cocktails according to standards, focusing on mixing, portion control, and presentation.
Serve guests with all food and beverage needs in a warm, friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in lounge areas.
Become familiar with the computer system.
Execute cashiering functions by closing checks and providing service to guests.
Adhere to all state liquor laws.
Assist in maintaining beverage costs.

Follow prescribed procedures in serving liquor responsibly to avoid issues with intoxicated guests, and report to management when necessary.

Complete beverage requisitions to maintain par levels as needed. (bottle for bottle method)Stock and clean glassware.
Check soda tanks to ensure they are full and secured properly to the bar.
Prepare all garnishes.
Assist in cleaning tables and all lounge areas as required.
Ensure overall guest satisfaction.

Qualifications:

Must be available on weekends and holidays. A high school diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or related field is preferred.

Must be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages, in accordance with local state laws.
Flexible and long hours may be required - must be reliable. Medium work
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Ability to stand for the entire shift.
Previous bartending experience is advantageous.
Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
