Job Title: Associate Director of Development

Join The Salvation Army USA Western Territory as we seek a highly skilled and experienced Associate Director of Development to lead our development efforts and drive growth in fundraising revenue.

About the Role

The Associate Director of Development will be a key member of our leadership team, working closely with Salvation Army officers, development committees, and Advisory Board/Council members to provide leadership for day-to-day operations and management of development department teams, special projects, and fundraising programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement fundraising budgets and campaign plans for the fiscal year, ensuring budgeted income goals are met.
  • Manage a caseload of up to 100 high-level donors, setting annual fundraising goals, maintaining personalized communications, and making annual gift requests to grow relationships and donor commitment.
  • Evaluate and recommend revisions to donor processing systems, implementing a proactive strategic stewardship process for all donors.
  • Collaborate with the Divisional Director of Development and Communications Team to develop and implement comprehensive direct marketing solicitation strategies to secure individual income through direct marketing and social media communications.
  • Work with the Communications Team, Development and Special Events Manager, and event committees to develop strategies for philanthropic support and creation of targeted collateral.
  • Assist units in preparing presentation materials for donors, companies, and foundations, and assist with training officers and staff on fundraising systems, data management, and development best practices.
  • Partner with officers and staff to build and train Advisory Boards/Councils throughout the Division to maximize community engagement and mission impact.
  • Assist units in resolving donor issues and work with the Divisional Development Director to identify internal management systems and goals of the Development Department and individual Development Department staff.
Requirements
  • Minimum BA or BS degree, preferably in a relevant field such as Business or Sales or Marketing, and a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Direct fundraising experience for a not-for-profit organization, with a successful track record in corporate fundraising, is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate effectively and professionally to executives and leaders in the community, as well as with key Salvation Army stakeholders.
  • Must be a positive and effective team player, with a strong networker and relationship-builder, and comfortable asking for money respectfully in a way that effectively matches interests with Army needs.
  • Must be well-organized and computer proficient, with strong writing ability, and have a valid Driver's License and be willing to travel regionally as needed.
