Position Overview: The Senior Analytical Chemist will be responsible for the development and validation of innovative analytical techniques with minimal supervision. This role also involves providing technical assistance to various corporate divisions, including Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and International Business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Analytical Chemist will report directly to the Analytical Chemistry Management team.
  • Conduct Quality Control assessments and data evaluations to facilitate the timely release of products on a weekly basis.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate scientifically robust analytical methods to ensure the analysis and swift release of raw materials, finished goods, and stability studies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Empower Software and other laboratory applications utilized in Quality Control for chromatographic, spectroscopic methods, and wet chemistry.
  • Evaluate testing methodologies and their suitability for various sample matrices and instrumentation, including the assessment of results from contract laboratories to ensure compliance with agreed-upon methods and testing parameters.
  • Stay informed about the latest technological and scientific advancements, serving as a resource for analytical science within the team. Mentor and train junior chemists in proper execution and interpretation of validation studies.
  • Manage hazardous waste from its point of generation, ensuring compliance with RCRA and SCDHEC regulations, including proper containment, accumulation, labeling, and storage.
  • Perform additional assigned tasks and adhere to both verbal and written instructions from supervisors or designated personnel to meet organizational objectives.
  • Communicate effectively across departments and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Maintain regular attendance as required.

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in developing analytical methods for chromatographic, spectroscopic, titrimetric, and wet chemistry analyses.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting laboratory instruments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of analytical method development strategies and specification setting for raw materials and finished products.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of laboratory instruments, including FTIR, HPLC, ICP, GC, UV-Vis, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and HPTLC.
  • Knowledgeable in the characterization and elucidation of botanical compound structures through structural analysis, spectroscopic techniques, and mass spectrometry.
  • Skilled in selecting appropriate analytical columns for chromatographic analyses and in choosing suitable reagents to design effective analytical methods promptly.
  • Experience in efficient sample preparation techniques to support a high volume of testing, including liquid-liquid extraction, derivatization, and both chemical and mechanical manipulation.
  • Understanding of statistical methods, such as data trend analysis and experimental design, is highly desirable. Proficient in reviewing and interpreting laboratory data.
  • Thorough knowledge of routine laboratory operations and industry regulations, including FDA and ICH guidelines; experience in implementing and maintaining compliance with pharmaceutical and/or nutritional supplement GLP/GMP is strongly preferred.
  • A proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the validation and development of analytical methods for nutraceuticals and/or pharmaceuticals in a GMP setting. A Master's degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience is preferred. Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • A degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to engage in hands-on work alongside the Analytical Chemistry team.
