Position Overview: The Lead Analytical Scientist will be responsible for the innovation and validation of advanced analytical techniques with minimal oversight. This role also involves providing expert technical assistance to various departments, including Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and International Business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Lead Analytical Scientist will report directly to the Analytical Chemistry Management team.
  • Conduct Quality Control assessments and data evaluations to facilitate the timely release of products on a weekly schedule.
  • Effectively develop, optimize, and validate scientifically robust analytical methods to guarantee the analysis and prompt release of raw materials, finished goods, and stability evaluations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Empower Software and other laboratory applications utilized in a Quality Control setting for chromatographic, spectroscopic methods, and wet chemistry.
  • Evaluate testing methodologies and their applicability to various sample matrices and instrumentation, including reviewing results from contract laboratories to ensure compliance with agreed methods and testing parameters.
  • Stay updated on the latest technological and scientific advancements, serving as a resource for analytical science within the organization. Mentor and train chemists in the proper execution and interpretation of validation studies.
  • Manage hazardous waste generated during operations in accordance with RCRA and SCDHEC regulations, ensuring proper containment, labeling, and storage.
  • Perform additional assigned tasks and adhere to verbal and written directives from supervisors or designated personnel to meet organizational objectives.
  • Communicate effectively across departments and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Maintain regular attendance as required.

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in developing analytical methods for chromatographic, spectroscopic, titrimetric, and wet chemistry analyses.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting laboratory instruments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of analytical method development strategies and specification setting for raw materials and finished products.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of laboratory instruments such as FTIR, HPLC, ICP, GC, UV-Vis, LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, and HPTLC.
  • Knowledge in the characterization and elucidation of botanical compound structures through spectroscopic methods and mass spectrometry.
  • Skilled in selecting appropriate analytical columns for chromatographic analyses and in designing effective analytical methods in a timely manner.
  • Experience in sample preparation techniques to support high throughput testing, including liquid-liquid extraction and chemical manipulation.
  • Understanding of statistical techniques, including data trend analysis and experimental design, is highly desirable. Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting laboratory data is essential.
  • Thorough knowledge of routine laboratory operations and industry regulations, including FDA and ICH guidelines; experience in implementing and maintaining GLP/GMP standards is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree with 10 years of experience in the validation and development of analytical methods for nutraceuticals and/or pharmaceuticals in a GMP environment. A Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is preferred. Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • A degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to work hands-on in the laboratory alongside the Analytical Chemistry team.
