Mail Services Clerk

Key Responsibilities:
• Operate HHS state issued vehicles to transport mail and supplies to and from different State agencies within Austin campuses, as well as external vendor and post office locations.
• Provide professional and technical assistance via email, phone, or in person to internal customers and external mail customers regarding HHS State Office Mail Services policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Organize, sort, and distribute mail, including processing large volumes of inbound and outbound First-Class and Overnight Express items.
• Perform data entry using Microsoft Office and peripheral devices, including printers, copiers, and scanning equipment to capture signatures, maintain records, files, and/or logs.
• Provide training for current, newly hired, and temporary mail services employees, showing job tasks for the position and cross-training to other mail office positions to facilitate backup capability.
Requirements:
• Knowledge of computers and various Microsoft software, e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel.
• Ability to communicate in a concise, professional manner either verbally and/or in writing.
• Ability to drive large type vehicles, such as cargo vans and/or trucks.
• Ability to obey State and Federal traffic laws and follow safe practices.
• Ability to tolerate cold and hot weather conditions.
• Ability to process large volumes of mail requiring standing for long periods of time and moving, lifting, and carrying various items up to pounds.
Working Conditions:
This position works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The work environment is typical of a mailroom setting, with moderate noise levels and frequent interactions with colleagues and external customers.
