Position Title: Veterinary Technician

Department: Veterinary Services - Clinic

Reports To: Veterinary Programs Manager - Clinic

Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Hourly

Summary: The Veterinary Technician is a skilled professional dedicated to providing exceptional veterinary care. This role involves collaborating closely with veterinarians and the veterinary team to ensure the health and well-being of animals. The technician will demonstrate proficiency in anesthesia and surgical procedures, alongside advanced nursing capabilities. A commitment to delivering outstanding medical services to shelter animals and underserved communities is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional communication with veterinary staff, management, and clients regarding patient health and job responsibilities.
  • Conduct thorough examinations of animals upon intake, identifying any health issues and documenting findings accurately in electronic medical records.
  • Lead surgical procedures in a high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter environment, monitoring animals closely and responding effectively to emergencies.
  • Administer medical care, including injections, vaccinations, and catheter placements, while ensuring safe restraint of animals for examinations.
  • Collect laboratory samples and perform diagnostics as directed by veterinarians, including blood tests and radiographs.
  • Assist in the upkeep of surgical and laboratory equipment, maintaining compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and management to develop training programs for staff.
  • Participate in clinic cleaning and preparation of surgical packs as needed.
  • Fulfill all clinic assistant duties and other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine passion for animal welfare and care.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Veterinary Technician, with a strong background in anesthesia and surgery preferred.
  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Experience in high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter settings is ideal.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including weekend availability.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and excellent communication skills.
  • Basic Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Desire for continuous learning and professional development.
