This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and public safety. The Supervisor of Animal Control Officers will oversee the daily operations of the Animal Control team, ensuring compliance with city ordinances related to animal care and control.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Direct and manage the activities of Animal Control Officers involved in the capture and removal of stray or dangerous animals.
  2. Supervise Animal Control Inspectors in their inspections of animal-related businesses and investigations of cruelty cases.
  3. Ensure that animal control vehicles are maintained in good condition and that staff adhere to uniform standards.
  4. Review documentation and ensure proper follow-up on service requests and complaints regarding animal-related issues.
  5. Monitor staff performance, conduct evaluations, and implement necessary corrective actions.
  6. Collaborate with law enforcement on cases involving animal cruelty, neglect, or public safety threats.
  7. Provide training and orientation for new staff members in animal control and inspection procedures.
  8. Conduct field inspections to assess compliance with safety protocols and operational effectiveness.
  9. Prepare reports on operational activities and productivity for management review.
  10. Engage with the public to provide information about the Animal Care and Control Center's policies and procedures.
  11. Represent the city in court proceedings related to animal cruelty and neglect cases.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Four years of relevant experience in animal capture, care, or inspection.
  • A valid State of Illinois driver's license.
  • Certification in the use of dart tranquilizers within four months of hire.

Selection Process:

Applicants will undergo an interview process that may include a written exercise and skills assessment. Candidates will be evaluated based on their qualifications and performance during the interview.
