We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Animal Care Specialist to join our team at Northwestern University. Key Responsibilities- Clean and sterilize cages, equipment, and supplies, adhering to strict safety protocols and guidelines.
- Prepare and dispose of animal waste and refuse, maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
- Feed and water animals according to their prescribed diets, monitoring their health and behavior.
- Observe and document animal behavior, reporting any changes or concerns to the Group Leader or designee.
- Assist in organizing and maintaining animal supplies, including feed, bedding, and dry goods.
- Perform basic technical skills, including cage wash activities, and participate in training sessions to develop your skills and knowledge.
- A minimum of 3 months of experience in cage wash, husbandry, or equivalent work or educational experience.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- A valid state driver's license is required if driving an animal transport van.
This position requires the ability to work a shift schedule that includes weekends, possible overtime, and holidays as required. You must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. A physical examination is required to ensure you can perform the duties of the job.
