Position Overview:

The Application Software Engineer is vital in developing, maintaining, and optimizing our core processing systems. This role is crucial for ensuring that our systems are efficient, secure, and responsive to the needs of our members and staff. The engineer will collaborate with various departments to enhance our financial services and member experiences through innovative programming solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct code reviews and manage the deployment of internal applications.
  • Engage in architecture discussions, requirements gathering, and design of internal applications.
  • Address end-user needs with professionalism and quality, utilizing independent judgment.
  • Research and recommend new software products to enhance technical services.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Develop, test, and implement software solutions for credit union users.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
  • Maintain a clean codebase to ensure applications meet user needs through ongoing testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Design and manage databases in line with departmental information storage requirements.
  • Create database reports and develop reporting interfaces for users.
  • Stay updated on new programming techniques through research and professional development.
  • Proactively meet with departments to assess and resolve programming needs.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and timelines, developing solutions to programming requests.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing and adhere to programming standards.
  • Maintain and modify core applications using various programming languages to meet system changes and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot existing code to minimize user downtime and maximize service efficiency.
  • Provide operational and on-call support as required in a 24/7 environment.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer, or in a similar capacity.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (HTML, FTP, SQL, .NET, Java, Python, C#, JavaScript preferred).
  • Strong grasp of software development principles and methodologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team setting.
  • Strong communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience with Object-Oriented Design (OOD) and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), service-oriented architectures, SQL, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, C# (C, C++, C#), Visual Studio, and HTML.
  • Familiarity with SOAP, REST, and other API technologies is a plus.
  • General knowledge of relational and hierarchical database concepts.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with core processing systems is preferred.
