Job Overview

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize mathematics, statistics, logic, and computer science to derive insights from extensive datasets related to engineering design.
  • Develop algorithms and software-based analytical tools to implement these algorithms, leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
  • Adapt AI and machine learning technologies to address scientific challenges and extract novel insights from scientific data.
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of scientists and engineers on complex projects.
  • Conduct data analysis and generate results to meet analytics, visualization, and modeling requirements across various computational architectures (cloud, on-premises, edge-based).
  • Employ advanced technologies, including Explainable AI/ML, Large Language Models, and physics-informed machine learning methodologies.
  • Demonstrate strong research capabilities and collaborate effectively with government agencies, academic institutions, and private sector partners to achieve project objectives.
  • Publish research findings in reputable journals and present at conferences.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, software, and applications.
  • Work alongside software and database developers to create, test, and deploy software solutions in various environments.
  • Analyze data quality, communicate issues to data providers, and establish repeatable data processing procedures.
  • Engage with domain experts to define the scope of inquiries that can be addressed using datasets and identify critical data features for analysis.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art data analysis and modeling tools to support the laboratory's mission of ensuring the safe and sustainable use of engineered systems.
  • Adhere to laboratory policies regarding software development, cybersecurity, and sensitive data management.
  • Collaborate with data providers and software developers to swiftly diagnose data and software system issues.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, artificial intelligence, or a related technical field.
  • Experience requirements vary based on educational background.
  • Proficiency in data science, data analysis, and software development using programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, or C++.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud services and analytics (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
  • Familiarity with tools such as SciPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Natural Language Processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is as follows: Level 2 ($75,804 - $155,496) / Level 3 ($91,008 - $186,588). Compensation decisions are based on education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
