The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is actively seeking candidates for several Engineering Research Specialist positions. An Engineering Research Specialist engages in various engineering disciplines to innovate and advance technology while conducting thorough investigations, evaluations, and applications of engineering principles.

These roles are structured on two-year contracts, which may be renewed based on performance and the ability to secure external funding for research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting a range of research and development tasks that necessitate the application of engineering or scientific methodologies.
  • Designing, operating, maintaining, and repairing specialized equipment and engineered systems using engineering or scientific principles.
  • Providing guidance to faculty, postdoctoral researchers, students, and staff on engineering design, modifications, prototype development, and analytical procedures.
  • Performing failure analyses, optimization studies, and other investigative tasks.
  • Assessing findings to formulate new concepts, equipment, or processes.
  • Ensuring availability and functionality of supplies for project use.
  • Possibly managing local computer systems to support laboratory operations.
  • Developing proposals, budgets, schedules, and progress reports, and presenting outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Preparing technical documentation for both short-term and long-term planning.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field or Engineering, including disciplines such as Aerospace, Biosystems, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer, Industrial and Systems, Mechanical and Materials, at the time of employment.
  • Level I - no prior experience required;
  • Level II - 2 years of experience;
  • Level III - 4 years of experience;
  • Level IV - 6 years of experience;
  • Level V - 8 years of experience;
  • Level VI - 10 years of experience;
Experience in engineering and research practices in areas such as microelectronics, automotive technology, highway research, robotics, materials science, and cybersecurity, or in various scientific fields including mathematics, physical sciences, and life sciences is preferred.

Advanced degrees may be considered in lieu of experience.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a Master's or Doctoral degree, Professional Engineering Licensure, Commercial Driver's License, or Remote Pilot Certificate.

Compensation

Salary Range: $45,100 - $151,300
