The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is looking for qualified candidates for various Engineering Research Specialist positions.

An Engineering Research Specialist engages in research across diverse engineering domains to innovate and develop technologies, while also conducting assessments, evaluations, and applying engineering theories and methodologies.

These roles are structured as two-year terms, which may be renewed based on performance and the ability to secure and manage externally funded research projects.

Key Responsibilities
Engages in a variety of research and development tasks that necessitate the application of engineering practices and principles.

Designs, operates, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and engineered systems using established engineering methodologies.


Provides guidance to faculty, postdoctoral researchers, students, and staff on engineering design, modifications, prototype development, analytical procedures, and other engineering solutions.

Conducts failure analysis, optimization studies, and various investigations.

Analyzes findings to create new concepts, equipment, or processes.

Ensures the availability and functionality of supplies for project use.

May oversee local computer systems to ensure laboratory efficiency.

Develops proposals, budgets, schedules, and progress reports, presenting results to both internal and external stakeholders.

Prepares technical documentation for both short-term and long-term planning.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, including fields such as Aerospace, Biosystems, Chemical, Civil and/or Environmental, Software, Electrical and Computer, Industrial and Systems, Mechanical, and Materials at the time employment begins.


Level I:
no experience required.

Level II: 2 years of experience

Level III:
4 years of experience

Level IV: 6 years of experience

Level V: 8 years of experience

Level VI: 10 years of experience


Experience should be in engineering and research practices and principles in areas such as microelectronics, automotive electronics, highway research, robotics and autonomous systems, metallurgy and materials, asphalt technology, pulp and paper, transportation, energy technology, detection and food safety, cyber-security, and information technology.


Education Substitutions:


When a candidate possesses the required experience but lacks the necessary education, they may typically apply additional relevant experience toward the educational requirement at a rate of two (2) years of relevant experience for each year of required education.

When a candidate has the required education but lacks the necessary experience, they may typically apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement at a rate of one (1) year of relevant education for each year of required experience.
