Job Summary

The Associate Director will play a crucial role in supporting the Deaf Hub's mission to improve healthcare training for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. This position will oversee diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, assist with mentorship programs, supervise Deaf Hub operations and finance, and lead externally funded research with the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive and place diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the forefront of Deaf Hub programming
  • Ensure equitable recruitment and retention efforts of BIPOC DHH in biomedical and healthcare careers
  • Regularly review all Deaf Hub programming to identify areas of improvement
  • Establish Deaf Hub DEI plan and diversity statement in a manner that supports NTID's Antiracism and Social Justice Plan
  • Identify, coordinate, and provide training, seminars, and efforts to increase inclusion and minimize bias for Deaf Hub personnel
  • Host events for the NTID community, such as listening sessions, and companion programming with NTID ODI
  • Provide mentorship and additional support to BIPOC DHH students in the Deaf Hub
  • Assist with oversight of Deaf Hub mentorship programs, including the Mentor-Supported Shadowing Program
  • Supervise and support Deaf Hub personnel to maintain operations
  • Promote externally funded research at the Deaf Hub, including sharing relevant calls for proposals and proposing, co-writing, and leading research with the Executive Director
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Psychology, Health Sciences, or related fields
  • 5+ years' experience managing teams
  • 2+ years' experience working in biomedical or behavioral science laboratories
  • Proficiency in a sign language and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of DHH individuals
  • Experience working with the Deaf community on projects with health and/or behavioral focus
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including drafting, editing, preparing, proofreading, and presenting information
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively handle all internal and external constituents
  • Ability to work independently and identify opportunities for growth of Deaf Hub
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred terminal degree (PhD, MD, EDd, PharmD, etc.) in a related discipline

The Deaf Health Care and Biomedical Science Hub (Deaf Hub) aims to improve the healthcare training experience through mentoring students and professionals, increase universal access in the health system by working with the community of health professionals, and strive for better health of deaf and hard-of-hearing people informed by research.

The Deaf Hub works towards the long-term goal of increasing the number of deaf and hard-of-hearing people entering health care and biomedical science careers.
