Job Summary

The Associate Director will play a key role in supporting the Deaf Hub's mission to improve the healthcare training experience for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. This position will oversee diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, assist with mentorship programs, supervise Deaf Hub operations and finance, and lead externally funded research initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Drive and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the Deaf Hub, ensuring equitable recruitment and retention of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in biomedical and healthcare careers.
  • Regularly review and improve Deaf Hub programming, identifying areas for growth and development.
  • Establish and maintain a DEI plan and diversity statement that aligns with NTID's Antiracism and Social Justice Plan.
  • Provide training and support to Deaf Hub personnel to increase inclusion and minimize bias.
  • Host events and listening sessions for the NTID community, including companion programming with NTID ODI.
  • Mentor and support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the Deaf Hub, providing guidance and resources for their career development.
  • Collaborate with key partners at RIT/NTID, including the NTID ODI Staff Retention Specialist and the Assistant Dean NTID Faculty Recruitment and Retention.
  • Assist with oversight of Deaf Hub mentorship programs, including the Mentor-Supported Shadowing Program.
  • Lead externally funded research initiatives with the Executive Director, focusing on DEI and mentorship.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Psychology, Health Sciences, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams and leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • 2+ years of experience working in biomedical or behavioral science laboratories.
  • Proficiency in a sign language and ability to communicate effectively with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Experience working with the Deaf community on projects with health and/or behavioral focus.
