Job Summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Emergency Communications Center Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Emergency Communications Center, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality professional support to internal and external customers, ensuring seamless communication and coordination during emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directs Incoming Calls: Expedite the processing of inter-hospital transport and scene/EMS calls to the appropriate resource.
  • Coordinates Medical Response: Obtain and accurately document clinical information from referring physicians, hospitals, and EMS agencies, and communicate this information to emergency services personnel.
  • Facilitates Communication: Serve as a liaison between the Emergency Communications Center, Security Department, physicians, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely communication.
  • Documents and Reports: Maintain accurate records of communications, events, and activities in written logs and computerized databases.
  • Supports Operations: Assist in the development of computer programs, report designs, and monthly statistical reports to support the efficient operation of the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Stays Up-to-Date: Maintain a working knowledge of new systems and technologies employed in the Emergency Communications Center.
  • Provides Security Support: Assist in the dispatch of Security personnel and log all Security calls.
  • Liaises with Stakeholders: Serve as a liaison with the Public Relations Department, referring physicians, ED staff, Transport Team, Safety/Security officers, and other parties to facilitate accurate communication regarding hospital campus activities.
  • Monitors Security Systems: Monitor security cameras and report suspicious activity to appropriate security personnel.
  • Responds to Emergencies: Respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations, remaining calm and professional under pressure.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification: Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or at least 2 years of experience as a PCA, Medical Assistant, Respiratory Care, or Nursing.
  • Experience: Experience in an Emergency Department, prehospital care, or other clinical setting desirable.
  • Skills: Analytical and organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and problem-solving/critical thinking skills, ability to multi-task effectively, and ability to function calmly and effectively in a stressful environment.
