Role Summary:

The Senior Respiratory Therapist operates under the guidance of departmental leadership and adheres to established policies and procedures. This role requires a high level of expertise in respiratory care and specific patient care areas. The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for delivering proficient patient care through various respiratory interventions, including airway management, mechanical ventilation, oxygen delivery, aerosol treatments, and other respiratory procedures aimed at assessing, preventing, and treating respiratory disorders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Administers comprehensive Respiratory Care services, including aerosol medication administration, basic pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, and oxygen therapy. Responsible for all airway management tasks, such as tracheostomy care, endotracheal intubation, and extubation. May conduct Pulmonary Function Testing as required.
  2. Availability for on-call duties during various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  3. Manages all aspects of ventilator care, including setup, function verification, and patient monitoring. Implements appropriate weaning strategies as necessary.
  4. Continuously enhances professional knowledge and skills, working independently with minimal oversight. Acts as a resource for colleagues based on experience level.

Additional Information:

Educational Qualifications:

● Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Licensure and Certification:

● Must hold current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Note: Current employees with Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification and extensive experience may also qualify.

All staff must possess at least one of the following certifications based on their practice area: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT), or an advanced practice certificate for moderate sedation in the Bronchoscopy Lab. All certifications must be kept current as per the certifying body’s requirements.

Professional Experience:

● Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the role of a Respiratory Therapist.

Skills and Abilities:

● Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting clinical data and technical procedures. Capable of documenting clinical information accurately. Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Strong mathematical skills for applying concepts such as fractions and ratios. Excellent reasoning abilities for problem-solving and data interpretation.
