Role Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist II operates under the guidance of departmental leadership and adheres to established policies and procedures. This role requires a high level of expertise in respiratory care and patient management. The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for delivering proficient patient care through various interventions including airway management, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and other respiratory care procedures aimed at assessing, preventing, and addressing respiratory complications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administers comprehensive Respiratory Care services, including aerosol medication delivery, basic pulmonary function assessments, breathing exercises, and oxygen therapy. Responsible for all aspects of airway management, including tracheostomy care, endotracheal intubations, and extubations. May conduct Pulmonary Function Testing as required.
- Availability for on-call duties during various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Performs ventilator management tasks, including setup and verification of ventilator function, utilizing specialized modes to effectively manage patient conditions. Monitors patients and implements appropriate weaning strategies.
- Continuously enhances professional knowledge and skills, working independently with minimal oversight. Acts as a resource for colleagues based on experience level.
Additional Information:
Educational Background:
● Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
Licensure and Certification:
● Must hold current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). Note: Current employees with active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification and significant experience may also qualify.
Depending on the patient population, all staff must possess at least one of the following certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT), or an advanced practice certificate for moderate sedation in the Bronchoscopy Lab. All certifications must be kept current as per the certifying body's requirements.
Professional Experience:
● Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Respiratory Therapist role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting clinical data and technical procedures. Capable of documenting clinical information accurately. Strong communication skills to effectively convey information and respond to inquiries from patients, families, and colleagues. Mathematical proficiency to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages in practical scenarios. Strong reasoning skills to identify problems, gather data, and draw valid conclusions.
