Controller - Financial Operations

The Greenlining Institute is seeking a highly skilled Controller to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and systems, including financial reporting, general ledger reconciliation, and accounting policy development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain accounting data and financial files.
  • Lead journal entries, asset tracking, balance sheet, and bank reconciliations.
  • Analyze and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in adopting new accounting standards and policies.
  • Provide advice on accounting, internal controls, and policy development.

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
  • Prepare and review financial reports, interpret data for management, and identify issues.
  • Lead the annual audit and tax filings (including 990 preparation).
  • Conduct cash flow analysis and prepare reports for management.
  • Support grant reporting and provide variance analysis for budgets vs. actuals.

Management:

  • Supervise the AP/AR Manager and support internal clients on finance processes.
  • Review and recommend improvements to accounting operations.
  • Serve as the primary administrator for Sage Intacct and super user for and Expensify.
  • Audit and verify data integrity across systems.
  • Train staff on accounting and finance systems.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of nonprofit accounting experience, including financial reporting and audit process.
  • Highly competent with Sage Intacct and MS Excel.
  • Experience with applications such as Salesforce, and Expensify strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Track record of successful collaborative relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks, sometimes under time pressure.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to manage a significant workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Team player mentality with the ability to collaborate and support the goals of the organization and all team members.
