Position Overview

The AVID elective instructor is a dedicated educator focused on building strong relationships with students. The AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program is designed to enhance the academic performance of students who are in the academic middle, preparing them for enrollment in four-year colleges. The curriculum for the AVID elective emphasizes essential skills such as writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, reading, note-taking, and study techniques. Students enrolled in the AVID elective are also required to take at least one challenging course in high school, which may include honors or Advanced Placement (AP) classes. The AVID elective instructor plays a crucial role in fostering students' academic achievements across various subjects.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must complete online training in the following areas:

• Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Prevention

• Mandated Reporter: Child Abuse & Neglect

• Restraint and Seclusion

• Sexual Harassment Prevention for Non-Managers

• VIPS Very Important Points: New Employee Trainings

• Workplace Violence: Awareness and Prevention

• Youth Suicide: Awareness, Prevention, and Postvention

Upon receiving a job offer, candidates will be provided with details and instructions regarding this training.

Applicants must hold a valid California credential that authorizes them to teach Computer Science, along with an English Learner Authorization.

Additional Information

Salary details:
* Upon hiring, salary placement will be based on the number of upper division or graduate-level units obtained from a WASC accredited four-year institution. Units must be earned after the completion of the Bachelor's degree.

* A maximum of fifteen (15) years of credit is permitted for teaching experience in a public or accredited private school (K-12).

* A stipend of $1,000.00 is available for those holding a Doctoral degree.
