Role Summary:

The Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer is responsible for delivering innovative technical solutions that align with organizational objectives and industry standards.

This role involves troubleshooting and resolving issues related to both private and public cloud infrastructures, executing projects, and monitoring system performance and reliability.

Additionally, this position serves as a technical escalation point for team members.

The Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in securing, maintaining, and overseeing the health of the infrastructure environment.

Key responsibilities include conducting utilization assessments, establishing fault notification protocols, analyzing data to identify trends, and creating automated proactive measures to mitigate application downtime.


Collaboration with architects, project managers, and other stakeholders is essential to understand requirements and design technical solutions that cater to the needs of the healthcare and research community.

Leading the analysis of application and system metrics to enhance performance and availability is a critical aspect of this role.

Ensuring the safety, confidentiality, and security of employee and patient data is paramount.

Implementing and enforcing security policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard infrastructure systems and data from unauthorized access, cyber threats, and compliance violations is also required.

Timely identification, documentation, and resolution of system functionality issues are essential.

Coordinating and adhering to strict project timelines while managing multiple assignments is expected.

Clear communication of problems, issues, and potential solutions to team members, clients, and organizational leadership is vital.

Recommending appropriate technologies within the scope of responsibility is part of the role.

Managing project plans, monitoring tasks and milestones, and reporting project updates to team leads and managers are key responsibilities.

Assisting in the development of new policies and procedures related to system and platform design, enhancements, change control, and infrastructure maintenance is required.

Working independently on complex projects and completing them within designated timeframes with minimal guidance is expected.

Installation and maintenance of systems and solutions in a hybrid cloud environment are essential.

Support for Windows, Unix/Linux, cloud, and virtualized infrastructures is required.

Developing and maintaining backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data protection and business continuity is critical.

Analyzing monitoring data to identify trends and create proactive solutions to prevent recurring issues is necessary.

Installation and maintenance of software, including operating systems and applications on various hardware platforms, as well as system updates, patches, and configuration changes, are required.

Collaboration with key IT stakeholders to develop system and application support plans is essential.

Assisting with ticket management for services, incidents, and change requests is part of the role.

Maintaining the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and lifecycle management is expected.

Providing on-call and after-hours support to address incidents, maintain infrastructure, and support operational efforts is required.

Coordinating with network, security, integration, application, and support teams to implement infrastructure components that support health system technologies and applications is essential.

Serving as an escalation point for technical and application teams is part of the role.

Reviewing proposed designs and architectures, identifying risks, and providing remediation recommendations in line with established standards and the enterprise's overall architecture is necessary.


Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required.
Experience in healthcare IT is preferred.

Certifications:
MCSE - Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (preferred).
All certifications will be considered.
Applicable vendor certifications are preferred.

Ability to manage and oversee projects effectively.
Proficient in identifying and resolving complex issues involving multiple integrated applications.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills.
Ability to analyze, diagnose, suggest, and implement process improvements.
Effective communication skills with healthcare staff at all levels, including IT managers, consultants, clinicians, and clinical leaders.
Ability to collaborate effectively and deliver high-quality service to stakeholders.
Solid understanding of data security and privacy standards such as HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, or equivalent.
Familiarity with infrastructure, platform, application, and security management emphasizing engineering principles.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize, influence, and drive remediation and risk reduction strategies.

Technical Expertise:
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Technologies, including enterprise Windows Server, Active Directory, SCCM, administration automation, and policy management.
Proficient in planning, designing, implementing, and managing enterprise Windows Server and Active Directory.
Expertise in high availability production environments.
In-depth knowledge of server best practices, baselining, performance management, monitoring, remediation, and update management of operating systems and applications.

Proficiency in scripting to automate tasks and processes using platforms and programming languages such as PowerShell, Shell Scripting, Python, Terraform, and Ansible.

Understanding of network technologies, including firewalls, proxies, and load balancers.

Familiarity with common protocols and standards such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, BGP, TLS, SSH, LDAP, KERBEROS, NTP, CIFS, and NFS.

Knowledge of operating systems such as Windows Server, Linux, and AIX, including problem resolution and performance optimization.

Understanding of storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, and Fibre Channel.

Familiarity with virtualization or containerization technologies and platforms such as VMware, Xen, Nutanix, Docker, HyperV, or Kubernetes.
