Land Survey Department Operations Manager Position

OWN, Inc. is an engineering firm that values employee-ownership and community involvement. We are seeking a skilled Land Survey Department Operations Manager to join our team in Destin.

About the Role

We estimate the annual salary for this position to be around $85,000 - $110,000 based on industry standards and national averages.

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the Survey Department, including personnel management, project proposals, and research for field and office work. They will ensure the quality and timely completion of field and office work, reviewing and approving survey calculations, and stamping and sealing final drawings.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in land surveying, with a proven track record of successful project management. They should be licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the state of [LOCATION] and familiar with surveying software and technologies, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GPS equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Survey Department's operations, including personnel management and project proposals.
  • Ensure the quality and timely completion of field and office work.
  • Review and approve survey calculations, and stamp and seal final drawings.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, addressing their needs and concerns, and consistently delivering exceptional service.
  • Manage project and department budgets, monitoring expenses, and implementing cost-effective practices.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to department personnel, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Stay current with industry trends, advancements in survey practices, and emerging technologies, implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to identify and pursue new opportunities for the survey department.
  • Maintain and archive survey records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and promote a safe working environment for survey operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the state of [LOCATION]
  • 10+ years of experience in land surveying, with a proven track record of successful project management
  • Familiarity with surveying software and technologies, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GPS equipment
  • Demonstrated comfort and proficiency in business development activities, including client management and relationship building
  • Strong ability to manage multiple objectives, clients, contractors, third parties, and internal team members effectively
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise in survey practices, equipment, and methodologies
  • Exceptional skills in determining project requirements, setting priorities, and managing resources
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet critical deadlines and deliver high-quality results
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex concepts and information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Extended periods of sitting and working at a desk
  • Ability to work in various outdoor conditions
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
