Principal Cloud Solutions Architect – Enterprise Architecture

Choice Hotels, a leading name in the lodging franchising sector, is thrilled to announce an opportunity for a Principal Cloud Solutions Architect within our Enterprise Architecture team. Our award-winning Technology Center is at the forefront of transforming the hospitality industry through innovative cloud computing, AWS, data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and application development. In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in shaping our cloud strategy and innovation initiatives, collaborating closely with Product Management and Engineering to enhance our platform and delivery capabilities.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with key business and operational stakeholders to align on objectives and long-term strategies.
  • Proactively engage in the strategic roadmap, leveraging industry trends to inform cloud infrastructure and development opportunities.
  • Act as a thought leader in the innovation and prototyping of generative AI and cloud capabilities.
  • Partner with technology leaders to ensure alignment between business goals and technology capabilities for effective delivery.
  • Generate and prioritize strategic ideas in collaboration with Business and Technology leadership.
  • Drive advancements in cloud systems and generative AI tailored to hospitality applications.
  • Oversee the strategic architecture for cloud initiatives, regularly assessing current and future states.
  • Develop an architecture runway for Product Management and delivery teams, addressing new business capabilities and technical debt.
  • Participate in integrated planning with other Enterprise/Solution Architects to ensure cohesive system operations.
  • Contribute to Architecture Governance boards, representing the cloud domain.
  • Stay informed on the latest technology trends in cloud computing and the hospitality sector, assessing readiness for adoption.

Your Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field; a Master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in software development and information systems, including 8 years in development and 4 years in a technical lead or architecture role.
  • Proven experience in implementing architectures that meet business, systems, and security requirements.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering techniques, including architecture modeling and tradeoff analysis.
  • Experience in business process modeling and reengineering.
  • Extensive knowledge in designing and implementing enterprise-class applications, including:
    • Service API design.
    • Integration with messaging solutions and understanding of design patterns.
    • Defining application boundaries and non-functional requirements.
    • Agile/Scrum development methodologies.

  • Experience with relational and non-relational database technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud deployment environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and distributed system design.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Your Team:

This role is an individual contributor position reporting to the Senior Director of Enterprise Architecture. You will collaborate with a team of peers and cross-functional departments regularly.
