Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Banker Team Lead to join our team in the Midwest region. As a key member of our commercial banking team, you will be responsible for originating new commercial relationships, cross-selling existing clients, and providing strong leadership to Business Bankers and Small Business Specialists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and implement business development activities, providing sales leadership and management while managing the commercial sales pipeline process for new business generation.
  • Assist in executing sales strategies for all lines of business, including making joint calls with Business Bankers and Small Business Specialists.
  • Ensure accuracy of portfolios by staying up-to-date on regulations, legislation, local and regional products, and pricing that directly affect the bank.
  • Identify commercial prospects within defined target markets, create and manage an effective prospect list, and perform activities to ensure growth in loan portfolios.
  • Serve prospects and customers through a consultative selling, trusted advisor role to assist them in recognizing and tackling business opportunities and risks, and helping them accomplish their goals while maximizing our effectiveness.
  • Prepare for, attend, and participate in sales development meetings, as well as prepare and conduct prospect and customer meetings utilizing sales and credit tools.
  • Conclude the sales process by gathering and evaluating financial statements and related data from the prospect or customer, determining potential credit worthiness, and establishing and negotiating proposed credit terms.
  • Review and direct new credit requests for existing clients and prospects to ensure adequate business discussions occur and to pursue creditworthy opportunities.
  • Participate in the credit underwriting and documentation, including ensuring that all relevant information is accurately documented and provided, assisting in the underwriting of all credit over individual lending limits, and concluding the underwriting process by reaching concurrence with the credit department while obtaining credit approval.
  • Ensure that all client documents and customer agreements, credit and non-credit alike, are accurate and properly executed, and funds are not released until all documents are properly executed.
  • Participate and monitor the portfolio of credit quality, including minimizing the risk of credit loss, monitoring customer performance for receipt and review of financial statements, Compliance Certificates, Borrowing Base Certificates, and associated receivable, payable, and/or inventory reports.
  • Ensure the Lender Annual Reviews and collateral monitoring is completed on a timely basis.
  • Pursue the collection of any delinquent account immediately.
  • Follow up on any open documentation or tickler item such as insurance, tax, or stale financial information.
  • Conduct business in compliance with bank policies and procedures, as well as all federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Actively involved in community activities that will promote the bank and/or assist in business development.
  • Complete annual E-Learning Plan and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training as assigned and keep up-to-date knowledge of BSA as it relates to the job function.
Management Responsibilities
  • Work with department staff on individual professional development and career development opportunities, facilitating team members in creating individual goals and development plans that align with the department goals.
  • Work with HTLF's Talent Acquisition team to identify and hire the most qualified and talented individuals to fill open positions.
  • Provide information and ongoing feedback to department staff regarding expectations and performance, salary adjustments, and/or promotions.
  • Address and resolve all performance concerns and issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews within established deadlines.
  • Partner with HTLF and member bank leadership to further develop the team around credit acumen, managing related business risk, and growing business through defined sales process.
  • Ensure that each Business Banker and Small Business Specialist is monitoring their portfolio, identifies and communicates changes in credit risk, and holds their customers accountable in regards to the terms and conditions of the loan.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of Business and Commercial Banking experience preferred, with a focus on consultative selling.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience required.
  • 3+ years of Commercial Credit experience required.
  • Proven ability to increase sales required.
  • Experience managing a book of business required.
  • Strong working knowledge of CRM applications, preferably Salesforce required.
  • Ability to delegate and lead by example and communicate vision with a passion while maintaining the focus on mission and purpose consistent with the HTLF model required.

The annualized base salary range reflects figures based on the primary location. Pay ranges may vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for a Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process.
