About the Role

Heartland Financial USA, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Banking Assistant II - Food and Agribusiness Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our commercial banking operations, you will play a critical role in supporting the Relationship Manager from initial application processing through closing and booking transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Loan Process Management: Manage the loan process, coordinate ongoing activities with the Portfolio Manager and Commercial Banker, and ensure successful origination.
  • Commercial Loan Process: Drive the commercial loan process by interacting with loan customers, acting on behalf of the Commercial Banker, and within the scope of authority.
  • Documentation and Data Entry: Guide borrowers to collect required documentation, enter loan data into the LOS System, and ensure accuracy.
  • Compliance and Verification: Oversee compliance and customer verifications, including OFAC and Fraud, and adhere to Reg B and flood regulations.
  • Collateral Documentation: Acquire individual and business credit bureaus, provide documents to the Portfolio Manager for Underwriting, and analyze information and data requests.
  • Due Diligence and Reporting: Request and collect due diligence activities, third-party reports, and provide them to the Commercial Banker and Portfolio Manager for review.
  • Pre-Closing and Closing Activities: Partner with Loan Operations to support pre-closing and closing activities, including collecting loan documents, reviewing for completeness, and ensuring accuracy.
  • Funding and Documentation: Ensure funding of closed loans, process income and expense fees, and obtain exception reports to resolve loan documentation issues.
  • Paid Off Loans and Monitoring: Oversee and process paid-off loans in accordance with bank procedures, monitor and act on daily, weekly, and monthly reports for maturing and delinquent loans.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalency required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years of commercial banking support preferred.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Commercial Banking regulations, department operations, policies, and procedures preferred.
  • Skills: Good computer skills, ability to quickly learn complex systems, excellent customer service skills, effective time management skills, and proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
