Business Banking Team Lead

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute business development plans to grow commercial deposits, loans, and fee income.
  • Provide sales leadership and management to the Business Banking team, ensuring accurate portfolio management and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and pursue commercial prospects within defined target markets, creating and managing effective prospect lists.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, assisting them in recognizing and tackling business opportunities and risks.
  • Prepare and conduct prospect and customer meetings, utilizing sales and credit tools to drive business growth.
  • Conclude the sales process by gathering and evaluating financial statements and related data, determining potential credit worthiness, and establishing and negotiating proposed credit terms.
  • Review and direct new credit requests for existing clients and prospects, ensuring adequate business discussions occur and pursuing creditworthy opportunities.
  • Participate in credit underwriting and documentation, ensuring all relevant information is accurately documented and provided.
  • Monitor portfolio credit quality, minimizing risk of credit loss and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure Lender Annual Reviews and collateral monitoring are completed on a timely basis.
  • Pursue collection of delinquent accounts immediately.
  • Follow up on open documentation or tickler items, such as insurance, tax, or stale financial information.
  • Conduct business in compliance with bank policies and procedures, as well as all federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Actively participate in community activities that promote the bank and assist in business development.
  • Complete annual E-Learning Plan and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training as assigned.
Management Responsibilities:
  • Work with department staff on individual professional development and career development opportunities.
  • Facilitate team members in creating individual goals and development plans that align with department goals.
  • Work with HTLF's Talent Acquisition team to identify and hire the most qualified and talented individuals to fill open positions.
  • Provide information and ongoing feedback to department staff regarding expectations and performance, salary adjustments, and/or promotions.
  • Address and resolve all performance concerns and issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and conduct annual performance reviews within established deadlines.
  • Partner with HTLF and member bank leadership to further develop the team around credit acumen, managing related business risk, and growing business through defined sales processes.
  • Ensure each Business Banker and Small Business Specialist is monitoring their portfolio, identifying and communicating changes in credit risk, and holding customers accountable for terms and conditions of the loan.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of Business and Commercial Banking experience preferred, with a focus on consultative selling.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience required.
  • 3+ years of Commercial Credit experience required.
  • Proven ability to increase sales required.
  • Experience managing a book of business required.
  • Strong working knowledge of CRM applications, preferably Salesforce required.
  • Ability to delegate and lead by example, communicate vision with passion, and maintain focus on mission and purpose consistent with the HTLF model required.

The annualized base salary range reflects figures based on the primary location. Pay ranges may vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for a Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus. Recruiters can share more detail during the hiring process. Each candidate's compensation offer will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things.
