Instructor Pool for College Admissions Advising and TESOL

Position Overview
Compensation: The estimated pay for this role ranges from $1,500 to $4,500 per course, with factors such as course duration, unit count, enrollment numbers, and budget considerations influencing the final compensation.

Employment Type: This is a part-time, temporary position, offered on a course-by-course basis.

Start Date: Some roles may commence in the upcoming semester.

Review Process: Candidates will be evaluated as positions become available; being part of this pool does not guarantee an appointment.

Duration: The length of appointments is contingent upon the course schedule, with potential for renewal based on departmental needs, funding, and performance.

Job Summary
UC Berkeley Extension is seeking qualified candidates for a pool of instructors to teach online courses in the Education department.

We are looking for enthusiastic educators dedicated to professional and continuing education to lead courses in College Admissions Advising and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The pool will remain active for one year, and those wishing to extend their candidacy beyond the closing date must reapply. The number of available positions may vary each semester based on departmental needs.

Courses will be conducted online, utilizing live lectures via video conferencing or asynchronous formats through a learning management system. Most live courses are scheduled for evenings and weekends (Pacific Time).

  • Establishing an Educational Consulting Business
  • Marketing and Public Relations for Educational Consultants

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • Cultural Competence in TESOL
  • Fundamentals of Linguistics for ESL Educators
  • Grammar Essentials for ESL Instructors
  • Second-Language Acquisition Theories
  • Teaching Pronunciation as a Communication Skill
  • Methods and Materials for ESL Instruction
  • Course Design Practicum for ESL/EFL Educators

Instructor Responsibilities Include:
  • Completing mandatory training programs by designated deadlines.
  • Timely completion of administrative tasks, including updating syllabi and communicating necessary materials.
  • Making continuous improvements to the syllabus and course materials based on feedback.
  • Preparing and delivering engaging course content and assessments.
  • Designing interactive activities to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Staying updated within the relevant subject area.
  • Utilizing subject-matter expertise to enrich the curriculum.
  • Employing course support platforms effectively.
  • Clearly communicating learning objectives and grading policies to students.
  • Responding promptly to student inquiries and needs.
  • Implementing inclusive teaching methodologies.
  • Assessing student performance and assigning grades accordingly.
  • Maintaining student records as per university policies.


Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent international qualification.

Additional Qualifications:
  • All work must be performed in the United States, either in-person or online. Non-U.S. citizens must possess a valid work permit by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • College Admissions Advising: A minimum of 5 years of experience in educational consulting or college admissions advising.
  • TESOL: Experience in training ESL educators.

Other Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of professional or academic experience in the subject area.
  • Advanced degree in the relevant field preferred.
  • Experience in creating educational materials and assessments.
  • Experience in online teaching or course development.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and learning management systems.
