Job Description:

MaineGeneral Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative to perform financial clearance, registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions.

As a Patient Access Representative, you will interact with patients frequently, greeting them and their families, checking them in for services, and ensuring information is readily available for clinical staff.

The Role:
  • Performs financial clearance, registration, and clerical duties associated with point-of-service (POS) services
  • Meets with patient or patient's caregiver to exchange necessary information and documentation
  • Communicates with unit staff and other appropriate personnel to exchange necessary information and determine placement
  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization, and ensures verification of medical necessity as necessary
  • Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays deductibles, and coinsurance, or refers to financial counselors for follow up
  • Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered into the registration system with timeliness and accuracy
Requirements:
  • Relevant customer service experience
  • Excellent and demonstrated communication skills
  • 1 year of patient registration, scheduling, or other clerical/customer service experience in a medical office setting preferred
  • Ability to keyboard accurately and quickly
