The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is responsible for ensuring a secure and safe atmosphere at Princeton University. Operating around the clock throughout the year, DPS is composed of a dedicated team of professional police officers, security personnel, dispatchers, and administrative staff.

DPS has achieved Law Enforcement Accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), showcasing our commitment to excellence in public safety.

In addition, DPS has received reaccreditation from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, reflecting our adherence to high standards in safety and security.


Position Overview

Reporting to the Security Operations Manager or the Assistant Security Operations Manager, the Chief Security Supervisor for the Art Museum oversees a team of Cultural Property Security Supervisors and manages a group of security officers.

The Chief Security Supervisor is responsible for scheduling, training, and supervising staff to ensure the safety of the Princeton University Art Museum and its visitors during operational hours and special events.

This role includes daily supervision of security operations, ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors.

The Chief Security Supervisor provides guidance and monitors the assignments of security personnel, establishing posts and overseeing control room functions.

Control room responsibilities include monitoring alarms, managing visitor access, and coordinating with the Department of Public Safety as needed.

Collaboration with the Security Operations Manager is essential in developing staffing and training plans to align with institutional objectives.

As a 24/7 operation, the successful candidate must be available for all shifts, including weekends and holidays.


Key Responsibilities:

Patrol Operations – 30%

Direct operational command over security personnel and manage patrols according to established guidelines.

Conduct daily briefings and ensure consistent application of departmental policies.

Coordinate with DPS for administrative functions such as payroll and training.


Staff Development & Performance Management – 20%

Evaluate staff performance and collaborate on training initiatives to meet community needs.

Supervise onboarding and training for new security personnel, ensuring a high standard of service.


Administration – 15%

Act as a liaison with campus stakeholders and manage the Museum access database.

Oversee payroll processes and report maintenance needs to the Facilities Manager.


Event Management – 15%

Engage in event planning and manage security operations for Museum events, prioritizing customer service and safety.


Control Room Management – 10%

Supervise control room activities, ensuring effective monitoring of security systems.


Emergency Response – 5%

Participate in risk management initiatives and respond to emergencies as required.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Three to five years of relevant security experience, including supervisory roles, preferably in a museum or educational setting.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a museum or art gallery setting.
Associate or bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Physical Requirements
Ability to perform moderate physical activities, including standing for extended periods and responding to emergencies.
