Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Assistant to support the Byzantine Art department at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The successful candidate will provide administrative support for the research and installation of Byzantine Art exhibitions, as well as assist in the development of future exhibitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research Support: Assist in the research and administrative aspects of Byzantine Art exhibitions, including provenance research, object documentation, and exhibition planning.
  • Collection Management: Support the management of the Byzantine collection, including data entry, object research, and exhibition records.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external curators, collection managers, and scholars on research and documentation of Byzantine collection.
  • Project Coordination: Assist in the coordination of complex projects, including exhibition planning, installation, and opening events.
  • Communication: Develop and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including curators, collection managers, and scholars.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Byzantine, Ancient, and/or Medieval studies, with graduate-level work preferred.
  • Experience: Demonstrated research experience on eastern Mediterranean art and archaeology or related field, with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Skills: Proficiency in TMS or other collection management system, exhibition database development, image scanning, and computer literacy.
