Job Summary

The Director of Retail Operations will oversee five retail locations, focusing on driving sales, enhancing customer and patient experience, and maintaining efficient workflows. This position will be responsible for the strategic management of and profitability of The Flower Shop's retail locations and teams. The Director of Retail Operations will play a key role in merchandising, ensuring the right product assortment, pricing, and placement. This individual must also be a strong leader who can motivate and inspire their teams to achieve success.

Key Responsibilities

Sales and Customer Experience:

  • Achieve sales objectives by creating and monitoring performance of sales and inventory plans, influencing marketing materials, and establishing inventory controls to optimize sales.
  • Enhance the customer journey by implementing best practices in service and engagement, ensuring a positive and memorable experience.
  • Analyze sales data and customer trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement in the retail experience.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor regional sales goals and profitability targets, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Ensure all retail locations comply with company policies and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Drive sales growth through strategic initiatives, marketing campaigns, and in-store promotions that resonate with customers.
  • Oversee inventory management processes, implementing loss prevention and cash control strategies to safeguard assets and maximize profitability.
  • Prepare and present detailed weekly and monthly business metrics to the President and CFO, providing insights on performance and areas for improvement.

Leadership:

  • Build high-performing retail management teams by aligning talent selection with the specific needs of each retail location.
  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for retail locations, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop retail managers to foster a positive, high-performing, and results-oriented work environment.
  • Oversee the hiring process for all assigned retail locations, ensuring a strong alignment between team capabilities and business needs.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, providing ongoing coaching and development to all staff to enhance individual and team performance.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing, Executive Team, and Inventory Management to develop and execute strategies that achieve sales goals.
  • Establish and nurture key relationships across departments, including Human Resources, Compliance, Security, Marketing, and IT, to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the purchasing department to identify and select product line enhancements based on regional trends and customer demographics. Ensure that dispensary and pharmacy management teams are prepared and resourced to effectively launch these enhancements.
  • Partner with Human Resources to investigate and resolve employee relations and employee engagement concerns in a timely manner.

Operational:

  • Analyze business metrics to create, implement and communicate action plans that promote growth and continuous improvement of retail operations.
  • Prepare and manage retail budgets and financial reports.
  • Conduct weekly travel to all retail locations and monthly travel to pharmacy locations to engage with staff and stakeholders, providing hands-on leadership and support.
  • Uphold a culture of accountability, people-centeredness and forward-thinking in the performance management of retail managers.
  • Respond to all retail manager's questions, concerns or suggestions and communicate resource needs to upper management; provide timelines for resolution and/or implementation.
  • Regularly assess store staffing and efficiency for improvement opportunities and workforce planning.
  • Lead retail managers in cohesive forecasting, scheduling, outstanding customer service and execution of programs and initiatives.
  • Analyze business metrics to create, implement and communicate action plans that promote growth and continuous improvement of retail operations.
  • Gather data and insights from individual retail location to contribute to strategic plans for the region that address business and competitor risk.
  • Manage any inspection or audit escalations, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in retail management, with a preference for experience in the cannabis industry.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing retail teams.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen.
  • Willingness to travel between Arizona and Utah.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Position details: Full Time, Exempt, Local/Regional travel, Monday-Friday, in-person, weekends as needed. Salary: $140K-$160K DOE
