Position Overview:


Under the guidance of the Outpatient Pharmacy Operations Manager or Outpatient Pharmacy Director, this role is accountable for overseeing all facets of pharmacy operations at designated outpatient pharmacy locations.

Ensures adherence to federal and state regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures. Responsible for the daily management of assigned areas/functions/services. Provides leadership and guidance to subordinate Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisors, pharmacists, and support staff. Manages pharmacy location(s) and fulfills the responsibilities of all subordinate roles as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
Assists the Outpatient Pharmacy Operations Manager or Outpatient Pharmacy Director in the formulation and execution of strategic pharmacy initiatives.


Supervises and directs pharmacy services and activities, including medication distribution, drug education, clinical pharmacist activities, retail expansion, performance metrics, regulatory compliance, employee development, and interdisciplinary team collaboration.


Oversees personnel management and operational practices to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, as well as organizational policies and procedures.


Collaborates with inpatient pharmacy management and medical group departments to ensure continuity of care and compliance with relevant regulations governing healthcare facilities.

This role interacts with pharmacy staff, pharmacy management team members, healthcare providers, department administrators, and physicians.

Conducts personnel management activities such as recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and potentially terminating subordinate staff.

Administers performance evaluations and ensures compliance with departmental evaluation timelines. Develops and oversees processes to meet HR compliance standards for evaluations.

Works alongside Human Resources to address employee concerns. Responsible for creating and managing departmental staff schedules and assignments. Prepares and approves biweekly payroll. Maintains regular communication and feedback with staff.

Assists the Outpatient Pharmacy Operations Manager or Outpatient Pharmacy Director in monitoring personnel utilization in line with the operating budget and adheres to the personnel justification process.

Develops the departmental budget in collaboration with the Outpatient Pharmacy Operations Manager and/or Outpatient Pharmacy Director. May engage with local finance teams regarding the departmental budget. Accountable for achieving all financial performance targets within the pharmacy.


Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of systems and processes aimed at enhancing quality, improving service delivery, and increasing cost-effectiveness.

Responsible for all service metrics within the department.


Assists the Outpatient Pharmacy Operations Manager or Outpatient Pharmacy Director in collaborating with providers and department heads to implement, assess, and enhance quality management programs.

Addresses service complaints from health plan members, other healthcare professionals, department heads, and staff.

Implements organizational and departmental policies and procedures consistently.

Performs the duties of all subordinate employees and other responsibilities as required.

Secondary Functions:
Work schedule is Monday to Friday, with hours subject to change based on operational needs.

Education
B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm. D required.
License, Certification, Registration: Pharmacist License (California)

Additional Requirements:


Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary outpatient pharmacy operations, including clinical, professional, legal, business, and public relations aspects.

Must possess a solid understanding of applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations.
Ability to extract relevant information from patients or other sources to inform the patient's medical management plan.
Proven skills in pharmacy business management, customer issue resolution, leadership, and supervision.
Must exhibit self-initiative, innovative thinking, and collaborative skills.
Strong proficiency in oral and written English communication.
Familiarity with various databases and computer applications.
Must pass a background check.
Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Pharm. D preferred.
Previous experience or coursework in pharmacy business management or related fields is preferred.
