Position Overview:

The Rehabilitation Counselor I or Rehabilitation Intern plays a crucial role in assisting individuals with disabilities in achieving and maintaining successful employment outcomes. This position is integral to the rehabilitation process, focusing on providing support and guidance to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Intake: Conduct thorough intake assessments for applicants, including gathering medical, social, and vocational histories. Analyze data to identify additional information needs and coordinate necessary evaluations.
  • Data Analysis: Compile and evaluate information to identify and assess disabilities. Utilize expertise in medical, vocational, and psychological assessments to determine individual limitations and strengths.
  • Individualized Planning: Develop comprehensive assessments and create tailored Individualized Plans for Employment (IPE) that address the unique needs of each client, ensuring realistic vocational goals.
  • Service Coordination: Identify and authorize resources and vendors to provide necessary services, ensuring financial accountability and effective service delivery.
  • Monitoring Progress: Collaborate with clients to track the effectiveness of services and make adjustments to the IPE as needed, ensuring satisfactory progress toward employment goals.
  • Job Placement Assistance: Provide training in job-seeking skills and assist clients in securing competitive employment opportunities, while ensuring compliance with policy during case closures.
  • Interagency Collaboration: Work with various stakeholders, including local education staff and community providers, to enhance service delivery and create viable career pathways for clients.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a degree in a human services-related field or relevant experience in vocational rehabilitation. Strong counseling skills, knowledge of federal regulations, and effective case management abilities are essential for success in this role.
