CDM Smith - Water Resources Engineer

Your proficiency will be pivotal in our efforts to safeguard and improve water quality standards, from crafting innovative treatment methodologies to executing comprehensive environmental evaluations.


Key Responsibilities:


With minimal oversight, establish industrial pretreatment initiatives and discharge criteria, as outlined by 40 CFR 403, for municipal clients nationwide.

Conduct research, produce technical documentation, and formulate procedures to protect Publicly Owned Treatment Works.
Engage with POTWs during the formulation of Control Mechanisms and support the establishment of local regulatory authority.
Examine preliminary designs and reports for adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
Ensure compliance with firm policies and practices across all studies and designs.
Perform site assessments as necessary to align designs with client and local requirements.

Contribute to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management by creating white papers and technical design documentation for new or unique designs, studies, etc.

Collaborate with sales personnel to develop proposals in response to current and prospective client requests for proposals (RFPs).
Review draft proposals for compliance with firm, industry, state, local, and federal regulations and best practices.
Meet with existing and potential clients to discuss their current and future design requirements.
Participate in conferences, symposia, etc., to enhance the visibility of the firm's technical expertise in the industry and expand one's own network and knowledge.

This role specifically seeks an individual with strong communication skills capable of providing technical guidance and training to junior staff.

The ideal candidate will leverage their experience and skills to lead tasks on water and/or wastewater treatment projects, particularly with substantial experience collaborating with communities to assess and develop industrial pretreatment programs and limits.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering or a related field.

Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).

5 years of relevant experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be necessary.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities:
Expertise in computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
Thorough understanding of engineering design principles.
Proficient in Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
