Associate Director of Financial Aid

Bates College is seeking an experienced Associate Director of Financial Aid to support access and affordability for our students. The successful candidate will analyze financial aid applications, calculate eligibility, and award financial aid, while advising students and parents on financial aid policies, application processes, and associated timelines.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide exceptional customer service, advice, and counseling to students and families as they make decisions about college planning and financing.
- Manage a caseload of students and families, serving as their point of contact from initial application to graduation.
- Calculate eligibility for institutional need-based aid and Federal Title IV aid by analyzing US federal income tax forms and other financial documentation.
- Counsel students and parents regarding institutional and federal eligibility requirements, processes, and timelines.
- Oversee federal and private student and parent loan certification and reconciliation.
- Collaborate closely with campus partners in Admission, the Center for Belonging and Community, and Athletics to provide outreach and programming for prospective and currently enrolled students and their families.
- Make financial aid presentations to students, parents, and campus partners.
- Perform Return to Title IV (R2T4) calculations and federal and institutional aid adjustments for students who leave or withdraw.
- Oversee mandatory federal exit loan counseling processes for students who have borrowed from federal student loan programs.
- Maintain knowledge of federal and institutional financial aid regulations and requirements to ensure the legal and consistent administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid funds.
- Supervise one direct report, including training, coaching, and managing performance.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 5+ years of financial aid experience.
- Counseling and advising experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience with financial aid software systems (Banner is preferred).
- Experience with CPS, COD, and EdConnect.
- Knowledge and understanding of Federal Methodology and Institutional Methodology need analysis.
- Knowledge of Federal Title IV regulations.

- Strong presentation skills and an ability to develop dynamic presentations.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical and quantitative reasoning skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive and solution-focused.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and learning.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and comfort using multiple computing platforms, and a willingness and ability to learn technology applications and systems as needed.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
