Position Overview:
GDIT is seeking a Scientific Technology Engineer to enhance support for the scientific community within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Our Cyber Infrastructure Support Services (CISS) Team delivers extensive infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, and end-user assistance for enterprise and scientific community clients at NIAID. The Scientific IT team focuses on facilitating High Performance Computing and its related infrastructure, scientific applications, and user support for NIAID's intramural research community. This team acts as a primary support channel for the NIAID research community, addressing new initiatives, ongoing projects, and scientific IT support requirements.

Impact of the Role:
  • Collaborate with NIAID engineers and scientists to assess and support project-based activities.
  • Address local scientific support challenges in partnership with the scientific support team.
  • Provide assistance for high-performance computing applications on HPC clusters.
  • Analyze scientific projects and offer recommendations, planning, and design for new hardware, software, and workflows to fulfill requirements.
  • Work alongside engineering and support teams to enhance and optimize scientific support capabilities.
  • Conduct analysis of system components and suggest improvements for system availability and performance.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding project timelines, resource needs, risk management, and status updates.
Requirements for Success:
Education: BA/BS (or equivalent)

Experience: Minimum of two years in a relevant field

Technical Skills:
  • Experience in supporting scientific applications and clientele.
  • Familiarity with scientific instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of local area networking, including cables, switches, and IP addressing.
Security Clearance: Must be eligible for NIH Public Trust

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Linux administration and scientific background, including Bash or Python scripting.
  • Ability to produce comprehensive documentation for technology solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with High Performance Computing or Computational Science Infrastructure.
  • Formal education in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in analyzing solution components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps in existing components.
  • Work arrangement: hybrid - two days onsite and three days remote.
