Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Accountant to join our team at Assurant. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for performing reinsurance accounting duties to provide accurate and timely financial and client accounting and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and process complex monthly and quarterly journal entries, financial reports, calculations, and analysis.
  • Account Reconciliations: Prepare complex account reconciliations and perform follow-up activities for pending items.
  • Process Improvement: Recommend process improvements and assist with project work as requested.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the direct accounting team to ensure reinsurance accounting is aligned and accurate.
  • Client Reporting: Work closely with the business to understand deal structures and client reporting requirements.
  • Contract Review: Ability to review contracts and understand how terms of the contract equate to financial impacts and timelines for client reporting.
  • Audit Support: Work with internal and external auditors on control test work and substantive testing.
  • Procedure Maintenance: Maintenance of ongoing process/procedure documents and ability to cross-train other team members.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment.
  • Confidentiality: Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Team Review: Review work of other team members as requested/assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years prior experience in financial accounting and reporting.
  • Insurance Knowledge: Understanding of insurance and/or reinsurance accounting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or MBA.
  • Skills: Ability to work independently, thrive in a fast-paced environment, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Technical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, accuracy and attention to detail, strong organizational skills, advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-lookups, and Power BI.
