Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides essential patient care under the guidance and oversight of a registered nurse within a clinical environment.
Qualification Requirements:
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to engage in patient assessments and apply critical thinking in response to various situations, observations, and communications.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Active LPN license in the state of North Carolina.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Current BLS or ACLS certification.
  • Preferred: 2 years of experience in Nephrology.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check, OIG exclusion, and drug screenings.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic operations using various units of measure.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and various data management systems.
  • Strong understanding of the principles and concepts within the healthcare field.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Ability to organize resources and manage repetitive tasks effectively.
  • Capability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality ethics and the ability to maintain sensitive information securely.
  • Familiarity with medical ethics relevant to medical assistants.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on attentiveness.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversight of Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP).
Essential Functions:
  • Collects necessary information to assess patient needs prior to the physician's examination.
    • Records patient vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
    • Documents patient weight in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    • Reviews patient allergies and medications.
  • Conducts laboratory tasks within the scope of practice.
    • Performs fingerstick tests for hemoglobin after appropriate training and certification.
    • Documents stool card results in the EMR as required.
  • Engages in Chronic Care Management activities.
  • Provides patient instructions as directed by the physician and documents referrals in the EMR.
  • Maintains accurate medical records, documenting patient interactions and changes in care.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires hearing, visual acuity, depth perception, and manual dexterity.
  • Involves extended periods of standing or remaining stationary.
  • May require lifting or moving items up to twenty-five pounds.
Work Environment:
The work is conducted in a standard office environment with a moderate noise level. The role involves regular communication and interaction with patients and staff.
