Role Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering direct patient care under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse within a clinical environment.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to engage in patient assessments and utilize critical thinking skills effectively in response to various situations, observations, and communications.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Active LPN license in the state of North Carolina.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Current BLS or ACLS certification.
  • Preferred: 2 years of experience in Nephrology.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check, OIG exclusion, and drug screenings.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations using various units of measure.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) and various data management systems.
  • Strong understanding of the principles and concepts in the healthcare field.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for delivering outstanding patient care.
  • Ability to organize resources and manage repetitive tasks efficiently.
  • Capable of multitasking effectively.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality ethics and the ability to maintain sensitive information securely.
  • Adherence to medical ethics principles applicable to medical assistants.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversight of Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP).

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect necessary information to assess patient needs prior to the physician's examination, including:
    • Measuring vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
    • Recording patient weight in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    • Reviewing patient allergies and medications.
  • Conduct laboratory work within the scope of practice, including:
    • Performing fingerstick tests for hemoglobin after receiving appropriate training and certification.
    • Documenting results in the EMR.
  • Engage in Chronic Care Management activities.
  • Provide patient instructions as directed by the physician and document medical information in the EMR.
  • Maintain accurate medical records by documenting patient interactions, changes in care plans, and communications with pharmacies and other healthcare providers.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to hear, see, and maintain balance.
  • Capability to perform fine motor skills such as reaching and handling.
  • Ability to stand or remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Repetitive tasks such as data entry.
  • Ability to lift or move up to twenty-five pounds using appropriate ergonomic techniques.
Work Environment

The role is performed in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels. Regular activities include standing, talking, and listening.
