Position Overview

The Director of Finance acts as a strategic partner to the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and plays a vital role within the finance and operations leadership team, focusing on high-level financial and operational decision-making. This position collaborates closely with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and other organizational leaders to enhance overall capacity and effectiveness, while developing and executing strategies aimed at improving efficiency and automating manual processes.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Finance will be engaged in and accountable for the following:

  • Oversee and guide the Director of Donor Services & Projects, Assistant Director of Endowment Accounting, Food Pantry Manager, and other related roles as assigned.
  • Enhance the direction and development of the Donor Services Group, Endowment Accounting team, and Food Pantry team.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Services to facilitate the adoption of innovative data repositories and integration solutions.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process alongside the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer; track progress and keep senior leadership informed about the organization’s financial condition.
  • Support the Director of Treasury in managing the organization’s cash flow and forecasting.
  • Provide comprehensive financial oversight and monitoring, including the development, implementation, and enhancement of sound fiscal management practices and internal controls.
  • Ensure effective tracking, management, and reporting of pledge revenue and accounts receivable.
  • Facilitate the timely collection of outstanding pledge receivables and reconcile open pledge balances, including identifying and writing off uncollectible pledges.
  • Supervise monthly accounting processes, including donor transactions and financial tracking of grants and restricted gifts.
  • Establish a robust contracts management reporting system; ensure financial data and cash flow remain stable and meet operational needs.
  • Analyze and present financial reports accurately and promptly; develop financial reporting materials for all donor segments and oversee project/program and grants accounting.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit and tax return preparation and filing process; liaise with external auditors and the finance and audit committees of the board of directors.
  • Manage all federal and state regulatory filings for both the organization and its related foundation.
  • Provide support to the finance and audit committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and leadership team to implement new strategic initiatives.
  • Work with the Senior Chief of Finance & Operations Officer and the leadership team to develop, implement, maintain, and enhance the strategic financial plan, providing financial insights for all strategic planning efforts.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: The ideal candidate should possess a BS/BA degree in Accounting or Finance, along with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in financial management within a well-established organization. A CPA designation is preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; familiarity with Abila MIP, Blackbaud CRM, and Sage Intacct is advantageous.
