Job Overview

Position Summary
The Preschool Educator role involves collaborating within a co-teaching framework, focusing on the nurturing and educational needs of a diverse group of children aged 3-5. The Lead Co-Teacher is tasked with fostering a supportive and engaging atmosphere for each child, crafting an environment that encourages exploration and acknowledges diversity, while implementing a vibrant, child-focused curriculum rooted in hands-on activities and play.

Key Responsibilities
Daily Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the comprehensive classroom program, ensuring smooth operations and addressing the daily needs of children and families.
  • Establish and maintain a welcoming and collaborative relationship with each child and family to strengthen home-school connections.
  • Manage classroom openings and closings, facilitating greetings and departures to promote effective communication.
  • Maintain a personal daily action plan for children, sharing updates and information with families on the parent information board.
  • Plan and execute daily projects and lessons utilizing the Creative Curriculum and Second Step frameworks.
  • Monitor attendance and meal counts each morning and evening for accuracy.
  • Supervise students in early special education placements, student teachers, and work-study students, addressing any inquiries or concerns with the supervisor.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of classrooms, storage areas, and common spaces.
  • Regularly inspect the facility and equipment for safety hazards, taking corrective measures or notifying the Director as needed.
  • Remain vigilant regarding the developmental and health needs of children, initiating referrals with the Director when necessary.
  • Adhere to all Vermont Center Based Child Care and Preschool Programs Licensing Regulations.
  • Follow the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Comply with the Trinity Children's Center Employee Handbook and Policies and Procedures.

Periodic Responsibilities:

  • Design and sustain a classroom environment that fosters curiosity, hands-on learning, problem-solving, creativity, and positive social interactions.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curricula aligned with Vermont Early Learning Standards, Second Step, and IEPs.
  • Conduct weekly observations of each child to document developmental progress.
  • Engage in collaborative planning sessions with colleagues on a weekly basis.
  • Facilitate parent-teacher conferences at least twice annually.
  • Evaluate the performance of early special education placement students, student teachers, and work-study students, addressing any concerns with the supervisor.
  • Complete an annual self-evaluation with the Director.
  • Develop an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) annually, reviewing progress biannually.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities related to personal and professional goals.

Qualifications
Required Experience and Credentials:

  • Experience in Early Childhood Education and/or Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Education or Early Special Education.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely lift children weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Capability to bend, stoop, and kneel to engage with children at their level.
  • Comfortable sitting on the floor and in small chairs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, with children, families, and staff.

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Commitment to celebrating diversity within the classroom.
  • Supportive of an integrated early education environment, with knowledge of collaborative consultation models and differentiation strategies.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for engaging children and fostering curiosity and learning.
  • Familiarity with Vermont Early Learning Standards and state licensing regulations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Possess a sense of humor, flexibility, and innovative thinking.
  • Professionalism, punctuality, and preparedness are essential.
  • Awareness of current legislative trends in early education.
  • Preferred: At least 2 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
