Job Overview:

This position is part of the Business and Income Tax Division at the State of Montana, which ensures secure handling of taxpayer information and data. As an Auditing Technician, you will perform a variety of duties assigned by management, including conducting examinations of tax returns, adjusting tax returns, conducting research, communicating with internal and external stakeholders, and participating in the appeal process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting examinations of tax returns and adjusting tax returns as necessary
  • Conducting research and analyzing data to support audit findings
  • Communicating with taxpayers and other stakeholders to resolve issues and provide information
  • Participating in the appeal process and providing support for other unit operations

Requirements:

  • Basic accounting and financial reporting principles
  • Basic State and Federal tax regulations
  • Research and analysis skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Basic mathematics
  • Conflict resolution and customer service skills
  • Microsoft programs and other database applications
  • Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
