POSITION SUMMARY

What is the role?

The Senior Automation Project Engineer will play a crucial role in the development and execution of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiatives, enhancing production processes and controls in alignment with the core values and objectives of Work For Warriors Georgia.

Utilizing engineering principles and advanced process control methodologies, this position aims to ensure that operational processes are efficient, reliable, and consistently optimized; mitigate process variability; and address unique operational challenges. Additionally, this role will lead the implementation and maintenance of plant automation, electrical systems, and database management.

Provide comprehensive electrical and electronic technical assistance to all production and maintenance teams across the facility. Responsibilities encompass the design, budgeting, scheduling, and oversight of capital projects, alongside delivering daily technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing operations.

50% Project Oversight
  • Manage all facets of project oversight and design engineering for both capital and operational projects.
  • Accountable for planning, assessing, organizing, and executing automation-related projects and strategies.
  • Design and develop new process control systems while revising and maintaining existing systems, executing WCM projects, and managing contractors, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Oversee automation-related projects and provide regular updates to management. Develop and maintain PLC/HMI systems that connect plant operations to management and financial reporting.
  • Research, design, and assess electrical and automation equipment, processes, and systems. Create CAD drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and schematics.
  • Gather cost estimates and contractor proposals for electrical and automation enhancements.
50% Support for Production Operations
  • Deliver technical support, troubleshooting, and improvements for automation systems (PLC/HMI/VFD/Instrumentation/Data and Voice Networks/plant electrical distribution systems) and implement necessary updates to prevent technical obsolescence.
  • Specify system components or direct modifications to equipment to ensure compliance with engineering designs and performance standards.
  • Investigate equipment malfunctions and challenges to diagnose issues and implement enhancements.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers, Process Engineers, and the electrical maintenance team to troubleshoot issues.
  • Conduct root-cause failure analysis and implement sustainable maintenance improvements.
  • Assist in developing standard operating procedures and work instructions for new or improved equipment and processes.
  • May be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

What qualifications do you possess?
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of ten to twenty years of relevant professional experience in Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) / PLC, automation, industrial networking protocols, and databases.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills to effectively collaborate in corporate, manufacturing, and team settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of AC/DC drive systems, power distribution systems including switchgear components, servo motor equipment and programming, Ethernet networking systems, HMI and PLC programming/troubleshooting, and electrical/electronic systems integration.
  • Extensive experience in capital and maintenance project management.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical, including P&ID, IO schematics, one-line diagrams, and three-line schematics.
