Job Summary

Museum Associates seeks a skilled Project Conservator, Objects to join our team. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for the conservation, preservation, and management of our collection of three-dimensional art and historical artifacts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform condition assessments, preventive conservation, and treatment of objects within the collection, ensuring their physical integrity and historical value are maintained.
  • Oversee and manage specific conservation projects from inception to completion, including creating and adhering to project timelines, budgets, and documentation standards.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of conservation treatments, condition reports, and any relevant research or findings, ensuring all documentation meets professional standards and museum protocols.
  • Work closely with curators, registrars, and other museum staff to support exhibition preparation, loan agreements, and collection care initiatives, providing conservation input for exhibition design and installation.
  • Research materials and techniques used in objects within the collection, staying updated on advancements in conservation science and methodologies.
  • Contribute to educational programs and workshops related to conservation practices, providing guidance and training to junior conservators, interns, and volunteers as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of conservation-related publications, reports, and presentations, representing the museum in professional meetings and conferences.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Conservation, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field, with a focus on objects conservation preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in object conservation, including hands-on treatment and project management, with experience in a museum or similar cultural institution highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in conservation techniques for various materials, strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with conservation tools, materials, and methods, experience with conservation documentation and standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey technical information to non-specialists and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to handle and lift objects safely, and to work in varied environmental conditions.
