The Culinary Operations Manager plays a vital role within our Culinary Team. You will oversee the operations of our in-house cafe and grill, supported by the Culinary Director and Executive Chef. Your primary focus will be to enhance the guest experience through effective management of the cafe environment, including floor operations, aesthetic presentation, cash handling, staff scheduling, training, and performance evaluation. Additionally, you will be involved in corporate catering and special events as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of cafe production, including staffing, point of sale systems, aesthetics, safety, and cash management.
- Contribute to the development of concepts for special culinary events.
Cafe Administration
- Allocate resources effectively to meet operational needs.
- Collaborate seamlessly with back-of-house staff to ensure an outstanding guest experience.
- Provide coaching and feedback to staff, recognizing exemplary performance during shifts.
- Ensure the cafe operates smoothly, maintaining high standards of aesthetics and service.
- Participate in daily business planning, driving execution towards financial targets.
- Authorize breaks for service staff as necessary.
Guest Service
- Lead efforts to recruit and train exemplary front-of-house staff.
- Consistently promote The Midway's service vision.
- Build strong relationships with staff, vendors, and guests.
- Exhibit effective sales techniques on the floor and mentor staff in salesmanship.
Environment and Ambiance
- Ensure the cafe's overall appearance is exceptional.
- Actively contribute to creating a welcoming ambiance.
- Monitor music volume and content to enhance the atmosphere.
- Foster an organized and efficient workplace.
Operational Procedures
- Maintain current opening and closing procedures.
- Ensure staff are well-trained on these procedures.
Financial Management
- Accurately reset cash banks and tills at the end of each day.
- Manage cash drops, deposits, and change runs efficiently.
Safety and Compliance
- Supervise the operation of cafe equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Uphold The Midway's safety and sanitation standards.
- Promote a culture of safety within the cafe.
Maintenance Oversight
- Monitor the maintenance of cafe equipment and troubleshoot issues or delegate to maintenance personnel.
- Assist in managing the point of sale system and training staff on its use.
Additional Duties
Other responsibilities may be assigned by the Culinary Director, General Manager, or Partners following discussion with the Culinary Operations Manager.
