Job Overview

Position: School Bus Driver - FULL TIME

Role Summary: The school bus driver is responsible for the safe operation of school buses in various weather conditions, ensuring the transport of students and authorized individuals along designated routes to and from educational institutions, as well as during extracurricular and special events as approved by the school district.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate school buses safely under all weather conditions.
  • Transport students and authorized personnel on regular routes and special trips.
  • Complete training to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and perform all essential duties effectively.

Employment Conditions:

  • Minimum age requirement of 21 years.
  • Demonstrated skills through various assessments and references.
  • Successful completion of necessary training programs.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role.
  • Obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver's License Class B with necessary endorsements.
  • Complete required training within the first month of employment.
  • First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain it promptly.
  • Pass a background check including fingerprinting.

Position Requirements:

  • Adhere to board policies and administrative procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of students and maintain the integrity of equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain physical and licensing standards as a CDL bus driver.
  • Participate in annual training and drills.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in English.
  • Utilize basic computer skills for administrative tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth.
  • Ability to manage groups effectively.
  • Strong attendance and reliability record.
  • Positive evaluations and recommendations from previous roles.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate and maintain school buses in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and management regarding route changes.
  • Conduct inspections and maintenance of the bus and equipment.
  • Ensure student safety and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Complete necessary documentation accurately.
  • Model professional behavior and interact respectfully with all stakeholders.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and move up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50-75 pounds.
  • Work in various weather conditions and maintain focus in a dynamic environment.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and various weather conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels in the work environment.
