Job Overview

Position: School Bus Driver - FULL TIME

ROLE SUMMARY: The school bus driver is responsible for the safe operation of school buses in various weather conditions, including fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow, and ice. This role involves transporting students and authorized individuals along designated routes to and from educational institutions, as well as on field trips and extracurricular activities as sanctioned by the school district.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Minimum age requirement of 21 years.
  • Demonstrated skills relevant to the position, which may include:
    • Successful completion of a basic skills assessment.
    • Prior experience in similar roles.
    • Positive references reflecting relevant skills and competencies.
    • Completion of training or certification programs pertinent to the role (e.g., CDL, High School Diploma, GED, etc.).
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must meet the physical demands associated with the position.
  • Completion of a bus driver training program is required.
  • Possession or ability to obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver's License Class B with appropriate endorsements.
  • Completion of required training within the first month of employment.
  • First Aid certification is required or must be obtained within the first month of employment.
  • Successful background check, including fingerprinting.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Adherence to board policies and administrative procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain physical and licensing standards as a CDL bus driver.
  • Participate in annual training sessions as mandated.
  • Evaluate and address safety-related issues.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and management.
  • Exhibit professionalism and a commitment to teamwork and service excellence.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English for effective communication.
  • Utilize basic computer skills for administrative tasks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with youth is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage groups of young individuals effectively.
  • Proven record of attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely operate a school bus on scheduled routes and during district-approved activities.
  • Maintain and update route documentation as necessary.
  • Communicate any changes in routes or requirements promptly.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the school bus and equipment.
  • Ensure the safety of student passengers and report any unsafe conditions.
  • Complete required documentation and reports as per district policies.
  • Participate in state-mandated training programs.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and district policies while operating the bus.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the school district.
  • Exhibit professional behavior and engage with the community respectfully.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and navigate stairs.
  • Must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 50-75 pounds.
  • Work in various weather conditions and near moving vehicles.
  • Moderate noise levels in the work environment.
