Job Summary:

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Hourly Maintenance Operator to join our team. As a key member of our roadway maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and heavy manual labor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including backhoes, dump trucks, and tractors, to perform roadway maintenance activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and extend equipment life.
  • Conduct heavy manual labor, including lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects, to complete tasks.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, responding to emergencies and inclement weather conditions.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Commercial Learners Permit required prior to hire; CDL preferred.
  • Knowledge of roadway maintenance equipment, materials, methods, and procedures.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment and performing preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
